LID Condemns Continued Violence Against Persons of Asian Descent

Trump’s presidency may be over, but the hate his tenure fueled is not.  That has manifested itself over the past few weeks in the form of white terrorism against Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) and other persons of Asian descent, culminating in the tragic shooting in Atlanta on Tuesday.

When one minority community is singled out, all minority communities suffer.  The hatred toward AAPI persons over the last few weeks is a symptom of an underlying problem - hair-trigger racism across the country which was bolstered by 4 years of a presidency that actively encouraged it.

As LGBTQ people, we know this hate and violence all too well.  It is incumbent upon us to stand with the AAPI community against this hatred.  This rhetoric and these attacks must end in order for Brooklyn, New York and the United States to move forward, recover from COVID, and heal from 4 years of government-sanctioned racism and xenophobia.
