Why do you want to represent your neighbors and fellow Brooklynites in Washington?

(100 words max)

I’m running for Congress because the communities that raised me deserve a government that

fights as hard for them as they fight every day to make ends meet. I was born and raised in Los

Sures, the son of Dominican immigrants, and grew up in Section 8 housing where my family

relied on food stamps to get by. That experience shaped my belief that government must work

for working people. From organizing childcare workers into the UFT to passing landmark police

reform legislation to addressing black maternal health disparitiest, I’ve always stood up to power

in the name of fighting for working families. I am ready to take this fight to Washington!

What difference will you make for your community? (100 words max)

I bring over a decade of experience turning progressive values into real results. In the City

Council, I passed landmark police reform legislation, the Waste Equity Law to address

environmental racism and the Commercial Waste Zones law to protect workers and

communities. As Borough President, I’ve fought for maternal health equity, housing investment,

and stronger protections for working families. In Congress, I will fight for affordable housing,

universal healthcare, strong labor protections, and a government that puts working people

ahead of corporate power. Brooklyn deserves a representative who understands our

communities because he comes from it and who will fight every day to deliver real progress.

How will you support and empower the LGBTQ+ community, particularly at a time when

transgender people are under sustained attack from the Trump Administration? (100

words max)

The attacks we are seeing against LGBTQ+ people, especially transgender people and

transgender youth, are dangerous, discriminatory, and fundamentally against every value that

makes New York City the greatest in the world. In Congress, I will fight to pass the Equality Act

and ensure LGBTQ+ Americans are protected under federal civil rights law. I will oppose efforts

by the Trump Administration and its cronies to strip healthcare access, housing protections, or

educational opportunities from LGBTQ+ people. Brooklyn has always been a place where

people can live openly and authentically, and I will work to ensure that remains true nationwide.

How will you support and empower Brooklynites being targeted by ICE? (100 words max)

As Borough President, I’ve already taken action to protect immigrant communities. I worked to

remove ICE from Rikers Island and helped open an asylum seeker application center that

supported 6,000 migrants navigating the legal system. In Congress, I will fight to abolish ICE,

end the Trump Administration’s cruel, fear-based deportation agenda, protect due process for

immigrants, and ensure families are not torn apart by unjust enforcement policies. I support a

pathway to citizenship, stronger protections for asylum seekers and those with TPS, and

policies that treat immigrants with dignity.

Who did you endorse in the 2025 Mayoral Election, in both the primary and the general

election? (100 words max)

In April 2025, I stood with my mentor Rep. Nydia Velázquez to endorse Zohran Mamdani, Brad

Lander, and Adrienne Adams. In the general, I proudly endorsed and actively supported Zohran

Mamdani.

Although you are running for a federal legislative position, we recognize that our federal

elected officials have an important voice in local political communities. With that in mind,

do you/will you support the Brooklyn Can’t Wait slate of District Leader candidates and

Brooklyn Can’t Wait’s reforms to make our local party more accountable, transparent,

inclusive, and effective? (100 words max)

Yes!

Legislation/Congressional Action:

Do you support impeaching Donald Trump and Kristi Noem? Are you open to impeaching

other federal officials, as circumstances warrant?

Yes, no one is above the law, even the President.

What other steps will you take as a member of Congress to hold the Trump

Administration accountable for its actions?

Congress must fully use its oversight powers to hold the Trump Administration accountable. I

will support aggressive investigations into abuses of power, corruption, and violations of civil

rights, and I will work with colleagues to ensure federal agencies comply with the law. Congress

must defend democratic institutions, protect the independence of the judiciary, and safeguard

the rights of vulnerable communities targeted by federal policy.

Do you support the abolition of ICE? Will you commit to not supporting any federal

spending bill that continues the Trump Administration’s repressive deportation

campaign?

Yes. We must abolish ICE. I won’t support a single dollar going towards Trump’s deportation

campaign.

Do you support the Equality Act (HR 15)?

Yes, and it is long overdue.

Do you support an end to American financial aid to Israel’s military? If not, are there any

conditions you would put on that aid?

Yes, our tax dollars shouldn’t be funding a genocide abroad. Congress must use their powers to

ensure any foreign aid is given to countries that are in line with international law.

The last few years have highlighted deep and systematic challenges to our democracy. If

elected to Congress, what steps will you take and what actions would you support to

fundamentally reform our system of government to get closer to a truly egalitarian,

democratic republic? Examples may include expanding the Supreme Court, expanding

the House, adding new states (e.g. Washington DC), moving to a national popular vote,

etc? Do you agree that we need fundamental reform?

The Supreme Court is Trump’s court right now. To ensure it is the nonpartisan institution it was

meant to be, I support structural reforms including term limits for justices, a binding ethics code,

and expanding the Court.

Congress has the right and responsibility to step in. We cannot allow an unaccountable Court to

continue undermining civil rights, reproductive freedom, and democracy.

I also support granting statehood to Washington DC and strengthening voting rights across our

country, especially Trump threatens to send ICE to election sites.

Commitments:

materials and other places where you list endorsees (with the exception of lists of

specific organizations (unions, etc) or elected officials)?

Yes!

Do you commit to using inclusive and gender-neutral language in press releases and

other announcements (e.g., “the people of the..” instead of “the men and women of

the...”

Yes!
