The Kings County Democratic Party is the largest local affiliate of the party in the country.  It is governed by the County Committee, which elects the County Party’s leaders. Used transparently and efficiently, County Committee has the power to leverage grassroots oversight and reform of our local party.  It has the power to be the vox popular of Brooklyn’s Democrats. Yet it currently remains toothless, with few meetings and many unfilled seats. It’s powers are wholly delegated to the county party’s leaders. It needs local political activists like you to bring community representation.  In particular, it needs LGBTQ representation. Subscribe to LID and stay tuned for future opportunities to get involved and become a member.

Whether you're a member of the committee or not, join us to encourage accountability and transparency in our party.  If you are interested in joining the committee in the future, come and check out what it’s all about tonight, when LID, in collaboration with other clubs, has proposed a resolution calling on greater oversight and accountability of the party’s finances.

Volunteer Opportunity for Judicial Candidates!

5C403AC3-09A8-4E64-841B-0507B57CD913.jpeg

This year, we vetted and endorsed our judicial candidates based, in part, on how they will ensure that transgender, non-binary and GNC litigants in their courtrooms will be treated - from use of pronouns to use of appropriate facilities.

Join us at Excelsior on Tuesday, 6/18 as we stuff mail to members of the LGBTQ community, encouraging them to get out and vote for our judicial allies on June 25!

Excelsior is, sadly, closing at the end of July. Excelsior has served as our unofficial clubhouse for many years. It has long served as a longtime meeting and social space for many in Brooklyn’s lgbtq community. LID’s new logo was unanimously adopted by our board here, and a lot of our successful work has been discussed, argued and put in place in this important space.

Let’s gather there for what may be LID’s final horrah and send-off for this amazing bar.

Each year, we march down 5th Avenue in Park Slope, surrounded by cheering Brooklynites, to show our neighbors what LGBTQ representation in Kings County politics looks like.
