Why do you want to represent your neighbors and fellow Brooklynites in Albany? (100 words max)
I am running to represent every resident of the 59th District of the New York State Assembly to advance a community-focused agenda centered on economic justice, strong public services, and responsive leadership. As a lifelong Canarsie resident and civic organizer, I believe legislation must reflect lived experiences, and grassroots advocacy must translate into action. I am committed to strengthening public education, supporting small businesses, expanding economic mobility, and ensuring communities have a voice in government. My approach prioritizes collaboration with stakeholders, labor, educators, and community leaders to deliver practical solutions that improve quality of life for families across Brooklyn.
What difference will you make for your community? (100 words max)
I will make a difference by being present, accountable, and focused on real results for the community. I will advocate for stronger schools, safer neighborhoods, and more opportunities for young people to succeed. I will also bring about capital projects that allow communities to come together in spaces where they are able to feel a sense of belonging no matter their race, education, sexual orientation, age, and other demographic indicators. I want to help bring resources to small businesses, create pathways to jobs and internships, and ensure families feel supported. I will listen to residents, understand their concerns, and work to turn those concerns into action.
How will you support and empower the LGBTQ+ community, particularly at a time when transgender people are under sustained attack from the Trump Administration? (100 words max)
I will support and empower the LGBTQ+ community by ensuring every resident is treated with dignity, respect, and equal protection under the law. I stand firmly against discrimination and policies that target transgender individuals or any marginalized group. I will advocate for inclusive schools, access to healthcare, safe communities, and economic opportunities for all. My approach is rooted in listening—working directly with LGBTQ+ organizations, youth, and community leaders to address real concerns. Everyone deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported, and I will work to ensure our policies reflect that commitment in meaningful, lasting ways.
How will you support and empower Brooklynites being targeted by I.C.E? (100 words max)
As a descendant of immigrant parents from Sierra Leone, I will support and empower Brooklynites targeted by ICE by standing firmly for immigrant rights and ensuring our communities are protected. I will advocate for strengthening New York’s sanctuary policies, expanding access to legal services, and protecting families from unjust detention and deportation. I will work with community organizations to ensure residents know their rights and have access to resources and provide referrals. I will also advocate for the NYS budget to provide funding for organizations that support legal services for immigrant communities targeted by I.C.E.
Who did you endorse in the 2025 Mayoral Election, in both the primary and the general election? (100 words max)
I endorsed Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Although you are running for a state legislative position, we recognize that our state elected officials have an important voice in local political communities. With that in mind, do you/will you support the Brooklyn Can’t Wait slate of District Leader candidates and Brooklyn Can’t Wait’s reforms to make our local party more accountable, transparent, inclusive, and effective? (100 words max)
Yes. I support efforts that make our local Democratic Party more accountable, transparent, inclusive, and responsive to the communities it serves. Reform is necessary to ensure residents feel represented and engaged in the political process. I respect the work of Brooklyn Can’t Wait, which would include collaborating with all leaders and stakeholders who are committed to strengthening our party and delivering real results for our communities. I will support reforms that expand participation, increase transparency, and build trust, while working to unify our local political landscape around shared goals of equity, opportunity, and effective leadership.
Similarly, we recognize that our state elected officials have an important voice in national political dialogue as well. How will you use your voice to speak out about ending US support for the genocide in Gaza and putting a stop to the aggression being implemented by the Trump Administration against Venezuela, Greenland, and other areas? (100 words max)
I will work with my colleagues in government to develop a resolution that advocate for peace, human rights, and respect for international law. I believe U.S. policy should prioritize diplomacy over military action and center the protection of civilian lives everywhere. I will speak out against violence, displacement, and policies that escalate conflict, and support efforts that promote ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and long-term stability. My role is to ensure our communities are informed, engaged, and represented in these critical conversations while pushing for justice and responsible leadership.
