Why do you want to represent your neighbors and fellow Brooklynites in Washington?
(100 words max) As a young mother and the only immigrant running in this race, I am well positioned to push
back against the administration’s dystopian mass deportation agenda and instead for a Lifetime
of Care from birth through retirement: universal healthcare, childcare, family leave, education,
social security, burial rites, and more. It is a vision where not only does the government provide
a caring safety net, but creates a system where we are able to care for the people we love and
communities and those communities are able to build solidarity and care for each other.
What difference will you make for your community? (100 words max)
I have a record of delivering for New Yorkers: ● Enabled 19,000 new housing units and secure over $2B in public investment ● Passed legislation and secure funding for local language cooperatives, get nonprofits
paid on time, and give labor power in City contracting ● Secured broadband internet for all NYCHA residents ● Voted for Council legislation to protect trans communities ● Welcomed over 15,000 new immigrants to our City
In congress, I will continue to give power to working-class New Yorkers, deliver a city and
country that we can actually afford to live in, and fight tooth-and-nail for our human rights.
How will you support and empower the LGBTQ+ community, particularly at a time when
transgender people are under sustained attack from the Trump Administration? (100
words max)
Anti-LGBTQ+ bigotry and hatred has been central to the advancement of Trump’s
anti-American, unconstitutional assault on liberal democracy, civil rights, and the dignity of
working people – and Congress has passively stood by. In Congress, I will work closely with LID
and LGBTQ+ New Yorkers, because I believe that policy is best developed and advanced in
collaboration with those it affects. We must reverse attacks on gender affirming care and the
weaponization of anti-discrimination laws. I would like to see equal rights explicitly enshrined in
all legislation Congress passes – so that we are not at the whim of executive actions or court
interpretation.
How will you support and empower Brooklynites being targeted by ICE? (100 words max)
More than half of NY-7 residents are foreign-born — like me. My family came here believing
America would give us a fair shot. Over the past three years, 15,000 asylum seekers arrived in
my district — more than anywhere else in the city. As a Council Member, I never opposed a
shelter in my district. I hosted welcome dinners and resource fairs for new arrivals. I passed a
legislative package and secured millions for local language cooperatives. In Congress, I will
fight attacks on our sanctuary City, create pathways to citizenship, protect immigrant workers
from exploitation, end family separation – and abolish ICE.
Who did you endorse in the 2025 Mayoral Election, in both the primary and the general
election? (100 words max)
I endorsed Mayor Zohran Mamdani in both the primary and general election.
Although you are running for a federal legislative position, we recognize that our federal
elected officials have an important voice in local political communities. With that in mind,
do you/will you support the Brooklyn Can’t Wait slate of District Leader candidates and
Brooklyn Can’t Wait’s reforms to make our local party more accountable, transparent,
inclusive, and effective? (100 words max)
Yes.
Legislation/Congressional Action:
Do you support impeaching Donald Trump and Kristi Noem? Are you open to impeaching
other federal officials, as circumstances warrant?
One down, one to go. I am open to impeachment as a means to hold the executive accountable.
What other steps will you take as a member of Congress to hold the Trump
Administration accountable for its actions?
It is critical for progressive leaders to push back by offering an alternative, coherent vision of
radical care for our Country. I will advance Lifetime of Care proposals and lean into our
power-of-the-purse to refuse budgets that fund surveillance and war over healthcare and
education. When considering a policy, I will ask, how does this improve the lives of my most
vulnerable constituents? To achieve this, we must also build power here at home. Only through
grassroots community and labor organizing can we stand firm for ourselves and our neighbors.
Do you support the abolition of ICE? Will you commit to not supporting any federal
spending bill that continues the Trump Administration’s repressive deportation
campaign?
Yes.
Do you support the Equality Act (HR 15)?
Yes.
Do you support an end to American financial aid to Israel’s military? If not, are there any
conditions you would put on that aid?
Yes.
The last few years have highlighted deep and systematic challenges to our democracy. If
elected to Congress, what steps will you take and what actions would you support to
fundamentally reform our system of government to get closer to a truly egalitarian,
democratic republic? Examples may include expanding the Supreme Court, expanding
the House, adding new states (e.g. Washington DC), moving to a national popular vote,
etc? Do you agree that we need fundamental reform?
I agree with the need for fundamental structural reform and would strongly consider supporting
the above. I would add to that campaign finance reform and small-donation matching funds to
reduce the influence of money in our politics. The 2025 Democratic Mayoral primary
demonstrated the power of ranked-choice voting to promote positive, alliance-based politics
over our traditional winner-takes-all system.
Commitments:
If endorsed, do you commit to using LID’s full logo (will be provided) and full name on all
materials and other places where you list endorsees (with the exception of lists of
specific organizations (unions, etc) or elected officials)?
Yes.
Do you commit to using inclusive and gender-neutral language in press releases and
other announcements (e.g., “the people of the..” instead of “the men and women of
the...”
Yes.
