LID Board Statement on the Indictment of Mayor Eric Adams

Following the indictment of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, the Executive Board of the Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn (LID) issued the following statement:

While all people, regardless of political party or identity, are entitled to due process, it has become abundantly clear that Mayor Adams can no longer effectively govern the City of New York, and should immediately resign from office.

Wednesday’s indictment confirmed what we already know: Adams is unfit to serve. Over the course of his career, he has repeatedly put his own interests over those of New Yorkers, undermining what remains of the public’s trust in city government.

Let us also be clear: corruption in this administration is not a bug, but a feature.

This mayor is a product of a broken Brooklyn Democratic Party, whose machine politics and cronyism have disenfranchised Brooklynites, stifled progress, and allowed for the resurgence of GOP power in historically Democratic neighborhoods across the borough. And now, as a result of a party obsessed with maintaining power by any means necessary, a sitting mayor has been indicted for the first time in 400 years of New York City history.

LID looks forward to electing a new mayor. New Yorkers deserve better - we deserve someone with integrity, who will act in the public interest, and who will be an advocate for the diverse communities that make our city the greatest city in the world.

Signed,

Executive Board, Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn
