LID Endorses Slate of LGBTQ Candidates for 2020 Democratic Primaries
Last night, LID endorsed 8 candidates for the 2020 primary election cycle, including 3 from the LGBTQ Community.
Josue Pierre was endorsed in the 21st Senate District (Flatbush and Park Slope). Pierre is challenging incumbent senator Kevin Parker. Genesis Aquino, challenging incumbent Assembly Member Felix Ortiz, was endorsed in the 51st Assembly District. Jesse Pierce, running for the open female District Leader/State Committee Member seat in the 52nd District, was also endorsed. Pierce faces Rachel Eve Stein in the primary. All three endorsees are proud openly LGBTQ LID members.
“I am proud to be endorsed by Lambda Independent Democrats, Brooklyn’s LGBTQ Democratic Club" said Pierre." As a member of the LGBTQ community, it is empowering to have their support in my campaign to be Brooklyn's first openly gay State Legislator. This is a grassroots, people-powered campaign, and together we will protect the rights of all marginalized communities, fight for real affordable housing, stand up to Trump, and create well-paid green economy jobs.”
"I'm beyond thrilled to earn LID's endorsement for my campaign to represent the 52nd district as District Leader" said Pierce. "As a queer woman with a predominantly queer "and fearless" campaign team, I want to be the kind of District Leader that works to share power held by a select few and put it into the hands of the broader Brooklyn Democratic Community, especially those that have been disenfranchised."
"Our endorsement represents that age old mantra: 'We're Here, We're Queer, Get Used to it" said LID President Jared Arader. "With the only LGBTQ Brooklyn legislator set to be term limited beginning in 2022, these endorsements represent our commitment to our community's political representation at all levels."

In addition to the above candidates, LID also endorsed Representatives Jerry Nadler and Nydia Velazquez, Assembly Members Jo Anne Simon and Walter Mosley, and District Leaders Josh Skaller and Olanike Alabi.
The endorsement meeting was live streamed on Facebook.
Thank you @LIDbrooklyn for endorsing my reelection campaign. I've always fought for the rights of the LGBTQ community as a member of the Assembly and I'll continue that fight until the civil liberties afforded to all of us as New Yorkers is a shared reality.
