LID Members in Sunset Park Help Raise Awareness of Trump Administration’s #PublicCharge Rule
LID members were present in Sunset Park on Sunday morning with members of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, local volunteers, and community organizers as they helped provide New Yorkers accurate, up-to-date information about #PublicCharge to help ensure immigrants are connected to free legal support regarding public benefits.
The Public Charge rule is yet another callous initiative under the Trump administration to hurt immigrant families by preventing some individuals from getting legal permanent residence status or a visa if they use certain public benefits or intend to use them in the future.
Although the Public Charge rule is scheduled to come into effect on October 15, 2019 it is already facing a lawsuit from NY Attorney General Letitia James with the City of New York and the States of Connecticut and Vermont.
If you are worried or have questions about how 'public charge' could impact you or your loved ones, you can call ActionNYC at 311 or 800-354-0365 and say 'public charge' to access city-funded, trusted legal advice.
