LID Condemns The Lack of Accountability Regarding the Killing of Kawaski Trawick by NYPD Officers"

LID shares the outrage and sadness felt by so many across the city that the NYPD officers who killed Kawaski Trawick five years ago today will not face any accountability for their actions. On Friday, in an end of the day announcement with not even the courtesy of letting Kawaski's family know, Police Commissioner Caban announced that Officers Thompson and Davis would not face any consequences for their actions, despite the Civilian Complaint Review Board recommending their firing.

Kawaski, a Black queer man, deserved to live in dignity and safety in our city, but sadly, as Friday's announcement shows, the NYPD and the Mayor continue to prioritize protecting officers and institutional reputation at all costs, despite the indifference to life shown in Kawaski's death and so many others, including the killing of Win Rozario last month. We honor Kawaski's life and call for accountability for the officers and the system that killed him. We encourage our community to join the 4/15 press conference at City Hall and 4/16 rally at Foley Square to continue to press for justice.
