Council District 35 - Crystal Hudson

Neighborhoods:
Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Prospect Heights and Crown Heights

What’s At Stake:
The communities that make up the 35th Council District face fast-paced gentrification, staggering development coupled with rising housing costs and unavailability and a loss of small businesses associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.  The district needs a progressive leader with a vision to ensure that the district, in the heart of Brooklyn, continues to contain affordable, vibrant neighborhoods that do not disappear at the hands of developers.

Who is Crystal:
Crystal is an accomplished community organizer and leader.  She has demonstrated experience both as a Council staffer and as the First Deputy Public Advocate under Jumaane Williams, an icon in NYC progressive politics.  At the beginning of the pandemic, Crystal founded Greater Prospect Heights Mutual Aid to address rising food insecurity in her neighborhood.  Crystal is a third-generation native of Prospect Heights.  If elected, Crystal would be the first queer Black woman to serve on the City Council.

By the issues:
Crystal’s progressive campaign is built on addressing COVID-19 response in her community, increasing education access, reallocating resources from the NYPD to social services programs, addressing affordable housing, community safety and more.  Check out Crystal’s platform HERE.

Endorsements:
SEIU 32BJ, United Federation of Teachers, the Freelancers Union, New Kings Democrats, Brooklyn Young Democrats, Indivisible Nation BK, tenant organizer Representatives Yvette Clarke and Hakeem Jeffries, State Senators Alessandra Biaggi and Jessica Ramos, Assembly Member Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas, Council Member Brad Lander and many others.  Check out all of Crystal’s endorsements HERE.
