District 40: Josue Pierre

Neighborhoods:
Flatbush, Ditmas Park, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Kensington, Midwood, and parts of Crown Heights

What’s at stake?
The 40th district has long been disadvantaged by underrepresentation in city government.  Its neighborhoods face increased pressures from development and gentrification.  The diverse district is home to many immigrants, people of color, homeowners, renters, small businesses and queer people and families.

Who is Josue?
As a longtime District Leader for the 42nd Assembly District, Josue, or “Josh,” is a well known community leader in Flatbush.  As an organizer, Pierre consistently works to elevate the issues facing the most marginalized and economically disadvantaged people in Flatbush, particularly around issues of housing.  Additionally, Josh is an accountant with a solid background applying financial skill to aid in community development.  If elected, Josh would be the first LGBTQ person of Haitian descent elected to office in New York.

By the issues:
Josh’s campaign is built on affordable housing for all of the 40th district’s hard working residents, many of whom struggle to afford rising rents and risk being displaced.  He is committed to expanding resources to small businesses, particularly minority-and-women-owned-businesses (MWBEs).  He has also pledged to support bringing more mental-health professionals in to schools.  Read more about Josh’s platform HERE.

Endorsements:
United Federation of Teachers, 32BJ SEIU, New York Communities for Change, Victory Fund, TenantsPAC, Black LIves Caucust, Stonewall Democrats of NYC.  Read a full list of Josh’s endorsements HERE.
